Caribbean Park unveils first EV charging station

Melbourne’s award-winning office precinct, Caribbean Park, have unveiled their first Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station in a partnership with global renewable energy company, ENGIE Australia & New Zealand, and are excited to be able to offer charging facilities to meet the rapidly growing demand for EVs.

Caribbean Park is Melbourne’s biggest business hub outside of the CBD and their aim is to provide the latest technology and best facilities for their tenants and visitors. EV charging facilities are an important part of that offering and builds on their recent Climate Active carbon neutral certification – the first Australian suburban office development of scale to achieve this accolade.

The partnership with ENGIE is supported by infrastructure provider JET Charge and charging network provider Chargefox.  Users can download the Chargefox app to find, use and pay for charging at the tap of a button.

What is an Electric Vehicle DC charger and how does it work?
A: An EV DC charger is a charging station that uses Direct Current (DC) to charge Electric Vehicles (EVs). It delivers a high amount of power to the vehicle’s battery and can charge it in a shorter amount of time than slower AC charging.

What type of DC charger is installed for the customers?
A: The charger is a Kempower 100kW EV charger with two satellites and is a high-power DC fast charger designed to quickly charge electric vehicles.

It comes equipped with four charging plugs and allows up to 4 EVs to charge simultaneously. Plugs included one CHAdeMO plug, three CCS2 plugs. The CHAdeMO plug is compatible with electric vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf and the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, while the CCS2 plug is used by Tesla and many European electric vehicles.

Please note: that the 100kW speed is split between the 4 EV bays, so the more cars charging at the same time will split the speed evenly e.g. 2 cars connected will split at 50kW per car

How many KMs will a 100kw give an EV car in 10 minutes
The distance an EV can travel in 10 minutes on a 100 kW charger depends on several factors, including the battery capacity of the vehicle, the current state of charge, and the efficiency of the vehicle.

However, as a rough estimate, a 100 kW charger can provide approximately 60-80 kilometers of range to an electric vehicle in just 10 minutes of charging. This estimation may vary based on factors such as weather conditions, driving style, and the specific make and model of the electric vehicle.

What is the charge rate for the EV DC chargers at Caribbean Park?
A: The rate will change with market conditions and current rate will be available on the app.

How long does it take to charge an EV using a DC charger?
A: The charging time depends on the battery capacity of the EV, the state of charge. However, most DC chargers can provide up to 80% charge in 30-60 minutes.

How can I use the EV DC chargers at Caribbean Park?
A: Users can charge their electric vehicles using the Chargefox mobile app or RFID card. Simply follow the instructions provided on the charger, select the charger on the app, and follow the prompts to initiate the charging process. If you prefer to use the RFID card, hold it against the reader on the charger to begin charging.

What should I do if I have trouble using the EV DC charger?
A: If you have trouble using the EV DC charger, you can contact the Chargefox customer support helpline for assistance on 1300 518 038. They can guide you through the charging process or arrange for a technician to help you.

Below are the instructions attached to the charger:

Hello Sunshine Festival Success

The inaugural Hello Sunshine Music and Food Festival took place right here at Caribbean Park on Saturday 11 February 2023.

This article was published in the Herald Sun.

Organisers of the Hello Sunshine festival have confirmed a 2024 return for the family friendly event after a hugely successful debut at Caribbean Park on the weekend.

More than 11,000 tickets were sold for the February 11 festival, with a peak attendance of about 8000 people enjoying music from Amy Shark, The Cat Empire, former red Wiggle Murray Cook, Pierce Brothers and 360.

Plenty of families, including up to 3000 children, also enjoyed rides, food trucks, market stalls and other carnival entertainment.

Original Red Wiggle Murray Cook was a fan favourite as he made his festival DJ-ing debut at the Hello Sunshine Festival in Scoresby on February 11, 2023.

Festival director Kieran Dole, of Lucky Entertainment, said organisers were thrilled with the response and were already working on a similar line-up to take the festival to the next level in 2024.

“To see everyone have a great time with the festival is really exciting for us and exactly what we wanted to achieve,” he said.

“We met the target, we were really happy with the attendance and we look forward to coming back next year.”

Mr Dole said police were pleased with crowd behaviour and there was no major incidents, except for a person flying an unauthorised drone, which delayed the end-of-night fireworks display by 15 minutes.

He paid tribute to the Spooner family and staff at Caribbean Park for supporting their vision for the event.

“I have a young family, I was born and raised in Knox, and for us to put on an event that had so many families attend was a really high point in my career,” he said.
“We know this area is such an amazing area and we didn’t want people to travel to the Yarra Valley or Mornington, we wanted to achieve an event in our backyard for families in this area.

Caribbean Park once included a famous long running market which began in the 1970s and closed in July 2020, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It remains home to a business park, the Hyatt Place hotel and the Caribbean Rollerama, and a future masterplan is being developed for the 500 acre site.

First Australian Vertiport Design

Skyportz released the design for the first vertiport in Australia to service the emerging electric air taxi industry at the AAUS annual Advanced Air Mobility summit in Melbourne, yesterday.

The vertiport will be located at Caribbean Park in Melbourne’s east, the fastest growing business precinct outside of the Melbourne CBD.

Caribbean Park and Skyportz have worked with Contreras Earl Architects, to70 aviation, ARUP and Microflite to come up with a practical, modular design to satisfy operational requirements to operate as a vertiport for Advanced Air Mobility.

“With the development of a vertiport in a business park we are breaking the nexus between aviation and airports. For this industry to succeed it needs to have policy makers pushing the envelope to support new “mini airports” in locations people want to go”, said Clem Newton-Brown, CEO of Skyportz.

“However community support is going to be the key to the development of these services. The community is going to have to see the benefits”

“Electric air taxis will be a new era in aviation where clean, green and quiet small aircraft can take people to places they want to go – be it work or leisure. The Caribbean Park vertiport is the first in a network of sites we will establish in advance of the aircraft becoming operational” said Newton-Brown.

Caribbean Park Director, Ben Spooner said “We are strategically and ideally placed to host the first Skyportz in Australia and we hope that in time, a variety of new and emerging businesses take advantage of this leading infrastructure. Caribbean Park is the largest and fastest growing business precinct outside the Melbourne CBD and we are focused on building a model, suburban workplace of the future”.

Hisense presents live talk with Barry Du Bois at Caribbean Park

Barry Du Bois chats RUOK?

On behalf of Hisense Australia, you’re invited to a live talk with Barry Du Bois on Tuesday 9 August at 11am.

Famous for his seat on the couch of Network Ten’s ‘The Living Room’, Barry – fondly known as Baz – is a renovation expert, master builder, Hisense Australia ambassador and board member for R U OK?

Ahead of this year’s R U OK? Day, set to take place on 8 September, Baz has kindly offered to join us at Middleman Café, Caribbean Park to share his story and the importance of asking a simple question, R U OK?

R U OK? is a harm prevention charity that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times in their lives.

R U OK? contributes to suicide prevention efforts by encouraging people to invest more time in their personal relationships and building the capacity of informal support networks – friends, family and colleagues – to be alert to those around them, have a conversation if they identify signs of distress or difficulty, and connect someone to appropriate support, long before they’re in crisis.

We encourage you to grab a coffee or a snack and listen to Baz talk about this very important topic, that we should all really get behind.

Look forward to seeing you!
